Shooting for "La Bombilla" or Fado faded away...

Another weekend of shooting and I have to say, I just love it....especially, when it involves running around with a huge lightbulb in Barcelona ;)

Yep, that was my idea for a project in University, with the given topic "Diversity". Just because of the fact, that I liked the word "Bombilla" (Lightbulb in Spanish) I constructed my whole shortfilm around it.

Well, in a city, there are loads of lights and if you think a little further, each person in a city is a light as well, as unique and different as he can be. Metaphore for light?A lightbulb.

Absolutely logic, isn´t it?Perfect...to add a little more diversity, I wanted people to sign it and write something spontaneous, a sentence, a word...we had everything, from "Love" and "Friendship" to "Merry Christmas". Some people were absolutely hilarious, like this one lady jumping into the picture, screaming "Happy people, we need happy people!", when we were complaining about people not being happy enough to sign our lightbulb. What a character that lady was...Sheila was her name, I will never forget that, for sure :)

Thanks to IKEA, I got "Fado" and made my own lightbulb....perfect, now I just needed somebody to run around in Barcelona and ask people to sign it. Weeell....who would be crazy enough to do something like that....Nam of course, colleague of crazy ideas from more or less the first days in Barcelona.

Well, the plan was perfect, I just forgot to consider, that I chose more or less one of the shyest people I know to walk up to random people to ask them to sign a huge lightbulb, in addition, her Spanish is still a little basic...weeell....whatever :)

I have to say, Nam proved herself to be very valiant and in the end, I think, she even enjoyed it. Well, at least I hope so. :)
However, there was a tragic end for Fado, the lightbulb....just when we wanted to shoot a second ending (brilliant idea coming to my mind just a few hours before), which involved Nam letting the lightbulb fall into a box with loads of cloth, she tried it, before I was finished arranging the camera.

Well.

The lightbulb didn´t go into the box.

Fado committed suicide.

And the camera wasn´t rolling.

F****

Well, it was an accident and I gave Nam Fado´s broken pieces...she said, she would try to fix it, but still....how tragic, the lightbulb, which accompanied us for 2 days, with all these signatures and sayings from all over the world, gone, smashed into pieces.....

However, I´ve got 1 hour of film, which has to be edited now...Fado will live on!Most special lightbulb on earth! ;) ....in memoriam of Fado.....

Still, the idea and the concept counts. I just hope, diversity is not as fragile, as this lightbulb ;)
